3 Things About Buying Car Gps Systems You Might Not Know!
If you’re like I was when I bought my first two car GPS systems, then there are a few things you don’t know that you should know.
I say “first two” car GPS systems, because the first GPS I bought was a mistake. I was unhappy with it.
It was really cool for the first week or so, but then I learned about all those neat features I could have had. Well, although I tried not to, I basically went out and bought a much more powerful (and more expensive) unit.
I still didn’t know a lot about buying car GPS systems, but I was learning–at a great expense to me!
So, you don’t have to make the same mistakes I did, let me help you understand a little about the GPS marketplace. That way you can get the right system for you and your budget the first time!
The first thing you need to understand is who makes GPS systems.
Let’s start with that!
Although there are several manufacturers, there are really only three that count: Garmin, Tom Tom, and Magellan. Together they control about 90% of the U. S. GPS market. Garmin has 50% of the market. They sell by far the most GPS’s sold in the United States.
So, as far as choosing a unit, personally I would go with one of these guys. That way I know my purchase will be supported next year and the year after.
Now that you know who to buy your GPS from, let’s talk about what features you can look forward to.
What’s so great about car GPS systems is that even the cheapest can tell you where you are and how to get where you’re going.
If that’s all you want, then the Magellan RoadMate 1200 might be the perfect unit for you. It only costs $120! For just a little more money, you could get the Tom Tom One, 3rd Edition which offers a lot more features at an introductory price.
Of course, for only about $80 more dollars, you can get real-time traffic alerts sent directly to your GPS and also more extensive maps (the entire U.S. and Canada). For just under $200, the Garmin nuvi 350 might be the perfect buy!
There’s a lot more these babies can do.
For instance, you can get a GPS that has Bluetooth capability. In other words you can use it with your cell phone to make hands-free calls!
You can also get GPS systems that let you enter more than one destination into the device at one time. That’s called multiple point routing.
The Gamin nuvi 760 or the Tom Tom GO 920T would be worth looking at if you want more of these features.
It’s impossible for me to tell you everything you need to know about car GPS systems in one 500 word article. But at least I told you more than three things you might not have already known!
What you need to do now is to get on a good website where you can check out current prices and also find out about specific units.
